Every assignment through studentgems.com will be different and every employer will have different ideas, standards and expectations. However here are a few things you will need to bear in mind when giving assignments to students:

  • Pay on time. Students cannot afford to give you credit and it would not be fair to make them wait for their money once the task is satisfactorily completed.
  • Find out the best time to contact the student. Remember they may be busy during working hours.
  • Students will be busy at exam times so you may need to think about extending your deadline to accommodate this.
  • When you choose one student for a task, tell the others you will not need them.
  • Students have skills and talents, but can lack commercial awareness - remember they may not have had a 'formal' job before.
  • Explain your requirements in detail and check their understanding.
  • Monitor their progress and be prepared to be more 'hands on' than if you had handed everything over to an experienced professional.
  • Communicate regularly and clearly.
  • Think about whether you need to buy extra insurance to cover your studentgems assignments. Speak to your insurance adviser.
  • Fill in the feedback section; students will be keen to build up a bank of potential referees. Be fair! Remember you are dealing with students who may have less experience.
  • Remember also that the student will be encouraged to post feedback on you!
