For the past 3-4 years, I have worked as a freelance graphic designer. This work has ranged from company logos and website branding to leaflets and posters for small businesses, university societies and club nights. Although I sometimes work in close conjunction with a client who has a specific vision, most of the work is performed at a distance, via email or telephone. Through this work I have become accustomed to working to a deadline, especially with regard to making last minute alterations. Working remotely has increased my self-discipline and business skills – I quote for work based on its complexity and time period, working with the client to reach a price that is satisfactory to both parties. I am often required to translate the client’s abstract idea into a concrete product, with very little initial explanation or description from them, and have found that clients are often very happy with my first interpretation of their vision.
